BikeAbout is an organization dedicated to bringing interactive and online technology and the safe practice of sports to bear in educational and cross-cultural exchange and the pursuit of peace and international cooperative understanding. BikeAbout has designed an intellectual, athletic and adventurous approach to promoting regional networks and world citizenship through the seemingly unrelated themes of virtual education, bicycling and the Internet.

BikeAbout's inaugural expedition was BikeAbout-the Mediterranean, the first "wired," human-powered (bicycle), land-bound circumnavigation of the Mediterranean Sea. It was a 9-month and more than 10,000-mile (16,000-kilometer) excursion through the schools and enterprises of the coastal communities of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Albania, Yugoslavia (Montenegro), Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Monaco, France, Spain, and Gibraltar.
